Lightwaves at Salford Quays

Enjoy a magical night of light and wonder at the UK’s biggest digital light festival. Watch in amazement as some of the brightest international artists showcase some truly monumental light exhibitions.

A Very 80s Christmas at HOME

In the words of HOME’s Program Manager, Jeni Hall, “This is not a Christmas season. It’s an 80s season.”

Just why do we love 80s films so much? According to Jeni it’s because “after almost 30 years, they still have a watchability that today’s low-risk blockbusters just don’t have.”

Billy Elliot at the Palace Theatre

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The Lowry

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be at The Lowry from 06 December 2016 – 15 January 2017

Jason Manford, Claire Sweeney and Phill Jupitus come together to star in this family favourite. Adventure, magic and invention will ensure audiences of all ages are enthralled by this rendition of one of the world’s favourite musicals.

The Snowman – Screening with Live Orchestra (and Paddington Bear)

20 December – 21 December 2016

Experience The Snowman like never before. Watch the Christmas classic accompanied by the Halle Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall. As part of this performance narrator Tom Redmond will accompany the lovable Paddington Bear on an exciting journey.


Christmas Carols by Salford Royal Choir

Sunday, December 4, 2016

Spend the afternoon in the atmospheric John Rylands Library and hear the Salford Royal Choir perform a medley of Christmas carols. It promises to be an enchanting night that you won’t want to miss.

Christmas Carols in the City

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is putting on its third annual Christmas carols concert at Manchester Cathedral. Enjoy a traditional merry sing-along as well as festive refreshments to get you well and truly in the Christmas spirit, plus, it’s all for a good cause.

Manchester Christmas Markets

November 10 to December 20, 2016 (main market hub in Albert Square open until December 21)

The Christmas markets are a festive favourite every year, with millions visiting to sample the wide range of food and drink on offer, not to mention the unique array of gifts and crafts to peruse and purchase.

The Winter Gathering at London Road Fire Station

This iconic Manchester building is opening its doors for the first time in 30 years, to celebrate the festive season in style. The Winter Gathering festival will feature a pop-up art exhibition, DJs and an exciting winter favourite, an ice rink. As well as offering a fabulous array of food stalls, the event will also cater those who enjoy a tipple, offering everything from craft beers to mulled wine, champagne to whiskey.
